Qatar Reference Page | Serial Number Prefixes
Qatar uses two types of serial number prefix, one type for the first series and another for the second and third series.
The prefixes for the first series are a fractional prefix using the 'Series letter' format. All prefixes use ا as the letter and start with ١/ا, with the number incrementing as the series progresses.
The second and third issues of Qatar use 'Denomination Letters' for their serial number prefixes. The letters are used in the numeric order of the alphabet, with the letters assigned to each denomination being:
| Denomination | Letter |
| 500 Riyals | ا |
| 100 Riyals | ب |
| 50 Riyals | ج |
| 10 Riyals | د |
| 5 Riyals | هـ |
| 1 Riyal | و |
The sequence started in the second series continues into the the third series. So, for example, the 100-riyal note of the second series (No.11) starts with prefix ١/ب and finishes with ٧/ا. The 100-riyal note of the third series (No.18) then starts at ٨/ا and continues from there.
