Illustration Rustaq Fort. Located in the town of the same name, Rustaq was a commonly used capital for the Imamate. The fort in Rustaq is one of the oldest in Oman and was probably built by the Persians long before the arrival of Islam. However it has been added to over the years and parts of the fort are quite modern.
