Illustration Sohar Fort. This fort is to be found in the city of the same name, which can in turn be found on the Batinah Coast to the north-west of Muscat. Although Sohar was one of the principal ports used by the Portuguese, the fort of Sohar predates the arrival of the Portuguese in 1507, and is described by the conquering Alberquerque. (It is a common myth that all the forts in Oman were built by the Portuguese.)
